An Elf's Journey
Location
Franklin Canyon Park
Kelsey Brooks and Nicole Liberty wanted to do a photoshoot with them as elves and I volunteered to be the photographer on the shoot. We put are heads together, and it was one of the best collaborations I had on a shoot. Kelsey and I searched for a location, and I felt it had to be something like an enchanted forest. It was tricky, but Kelsey found one. Franklin Canyon Park. Kelsey and Nicole did their costumes, makeup and brought props as well.
I looked up fairytale references to help give us ideas on how the photos could look, but Cate Blanchett's Galadriel from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was on my mind the whole time during our shoot. I really like how Peter Jackson and his cinematographer, the late Andrew Lesnie, made her character shine as if she were an angel. I wanted to do the same thing with Kelsey and Nicole on this shoot. I had the White Balance on my Nikon set on a warm temperature to do that.
Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" trilogy was not only a great reference for this photoshoot I did with Kelsey and Nicole, but also an inspiration. Nature surrounds just about everything you see in Middle Earth from the forest to the mountains, and I wanted to make this look as though Kelsey and Nicole were traveling through that world.
Kelsey and Nicole also wanted to do photos where they acted silly. We had a lot of fun doing this shoot together.
